BILLY AL BENGSTON (1934-2022) Cannes (Two Works) signed, titled and dated 'BENGSTON CANNES 1958' (lower edge) sheet 1: oil, ink, watercolor, tape and paper collage on paper sheet 2: ink and acrylic on paper sheet 1: 12 x 9 1 ⁄ 2 in. (30.5 x 24.1 cm.) sheet 2: 19 x 16 in. (48.3 x 40.6 cm.) Executed in 1958.
Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Billy Al Bengston could be acquired at Christies in New York in December last year for an unexpectedly low price. In the First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art auction, the work Cannes (Two Works) changed hands for USD 1,134.00 (€ 1,060.01) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Billy Al Bengston achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Lester, 1961 in February 2020 with an auction result of USD 548,075.00 (€ 497,120.18).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Dieses Kunstwerk von Billy Al Bengston konnte im Dezember letzten Jahres bei Christies in New York für einen unerwartet niedrigen Preis ersteigert werden. In der Auktion First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art wechselte die Arbeit Cannes (Two Works) für USD 1.134,00 (€ 1.060,01) den Besitzer – und verfehlte damit das untere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Billy Al Bengston erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Lester, 1961 im Februar 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 548.075,00 (€ 497.120,18).
