Artwork auctioned at six times the upper estimate price
When the work Two Bathers by Ben Sledsens was auctioned at Phillips in Hong Kong in June last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 300,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than six times as high at HKD 2,016,000.00 (€ 245,332.31). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ben Sledsens - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Throwing Dice, which sold at auction in June this year for GBP 504,000.00 (€ 586,569.23).
Kunstwerk zum Sechsfachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Two Bathers von Ben Sledsens im Juni letzten Jahres bei Phillips in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 300.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 2.016.000,00 (€ 245.332,31) mehr als sechsmal so hoch. Für andere Arbeiten von Ben Sledsens mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Throwing Dice beobachtet, die im Juni diesen Jahres für GBP 504.000,00 (€ 586.569,23) versteigert wurde.
