BARBARA HEPWORTH (1903-1975) Squares and Circles, from: Twelve Lithographs lithograph in black and green, 1969, on wove paper, watermark initials BH, signed in pencil, numbered 15/60 (there was also an edition of thirty numbered X1 to 30), printed and published by Curwen Studio, London, with their blindstamp Image 740 x 550 mm. Sheet 805 x 580 mm.
Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In September this year Christies in Hong Kong held the auction Prints and Multiples, which included the work Squares and Circles, from: Twelve Lithographs by Barbara Hepworth. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 4,032.00 (€ 4,032.00), 15% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Barbara Hepworth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Family of Man: Ancestor II in November this year with an auction result of USD 11,565,000.00 (€ 10,602,310.23).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im September diesen Jahres führte Christies in Hong Kong die Auktion Prints and Multiples durch, in der auch die Arbeit Squares and Circles, from: Twelve Lithographs von Barbara Hepworth zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 4.032,00 (€ 4.032,00) und damit 15% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Barbara Hepworth erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Family of Man: Ancestor II im November diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 11.565.000,00 (€ 10.602.310,23).
