This artwork by Awang Damit Ahmad achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2014. In the Modern and Contemporary Southeast Asian Paintings auction, the work Perjalanan Utara: Kinkir Pun Mula Sepi (A Journey To The North: Even The Beginning Of All Things Start With Silence) sold for HKD 437,500.00 (€ 40,690.34) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 220,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Awang Damit Ahmad; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Garis Mega (Iraga Series) sold at auction in October 2014 with the realized price of HKD 600,000.00 (€ 61,771.75).
