This artwork by Anthonie Waterloo achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in July 2021. In the A Fine Line: Master Works on Paper from Five Centuries auction, the work Recto: A landscape with two figures in the foreground Verso: A riverscape with trees in the foreground sold for GBP 18,900.00 (€ 22,164.17) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Anthonie Waterloo; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A Footbridge Over A Stream, With A Pollard Willow sold at auction in January 2015 with the realized price of USD 27,500.00 (€ 24,357.84).
