Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Red Leaves/Difficult to Find/Held with Water/To the Tip of a Quarried Stone/Government Island, Virginia October 13 by Andy Goldsworthy was auctioned at Phillips in New York in October 2017, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 7,500.00 (€ 6,438.87). Admittedly, works by Andy Goldsworthy have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work (i) British Museum (Stonework) (ii) Stonework in February 2005 with an auction result of GBP 28,800.00 (€ 41,763.69).
