ANDREAS FEININGER (1906–1999) The Photojournalist, 1955 gelatin silver print, printed 1992 signed, titled, dated [with print date] and numbered '28/50 + 10' in ink and pencil, stamped edition information and annotated with Time Warner copyright credit and reproduction limitation in pencil (verso) image: 13 1 ⁄ 2 x 10 1 ⁄ 4 in. (34.2 x 26 cm.) sheet: 14 x 11 in. (35.5 x 27.9 cm.) This work was printed in the Time Life photo lab and is number twenty-eight from an edition of fifty, plus ten original prints.
Auction result well in line with expectations
In October this year Christies in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work The Photojournalist, 1955 by Andreas Feininger. The price achieved of USD 10,080.00 (€ 9,538.23) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. Admittedly, works by Andreas Feininger have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Photojournalist (Dennis Stock, Magnum Photographer) in April 2001 with an auction result of USD 41,125.00 (€ 46,343.25).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober diesen Jahres führte Christies in New York die Auktion Photographs durch, in der auch die Arbeit The Photojournalist, 1955 von Andreas Feininger zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 10.080,00 (€ 9.538,23) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 8.000,00 – 12.000,00 angegeben worden. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Andreas Feininger auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Photojournalist (Dennis Stock, Magnum Photographer) im April 2001 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 41.125,00 (€ 46.343,25).
