Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
The work Mady by Alice Neel was worth USD 1,835,000.00 (€ 1,625,764.15) to a buyer in November 2021. This price was achieved in the auction Contemporary Day Auction at Sothebys in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 450,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alice Neel; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Dr. Finger’S Waiting Room sold at auction in May 2021 with the realized price of USD 3,030,000.00 (€ 2,484,828.60).
