FIRST EDITION. 'A LEGENDARY PHOTOBOOK,' and 'one of the most successful attempts at suggesting motion in photography, and certainly one of the most cinematic and dynamic photobooks ever published' (The Photobook). It is a radical work, both in layout and technique, which 'spat in the face of technique and pointed out a new way in which photographers could work' (Kerry William Purcell, quoted in The Photobook). 1 of 500 copies, the entire edition. Sold at the upper estimate price
The work Ballet. New York: J.J. Augustin, 1945. by Alexey Brodovitch was sold in the Photobooks auction at Christies in London in May 2009. The auction ended at the price of GBP 3,000.00 (€ 3,431.97), which exactly corresponded to the upper end of the estimated price range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Alexey Brodovitch achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Ballet (Boutique Fantasque), 1935-37 in October 2006 with an auction result of USD 45,600.00 (€ 35,700.31).
Zuschlag beim oberen Schätzpreis
Die Arbeit Ballet. New York: J.J. Augustin, 1945. von Alexey Brodovitch wurde im Mai 2009 in der Auktion Photobooks bei Christies in London versteigert. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 3.000,00 (€ 3.431,97) entsprach exakt dem oberen Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Alexey Brodovitch erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Ballet (Boutique Fantasque), 1935-37 im Oktober 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 45.600,00 (€ 35.700,31).
