Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A View Of Edinburgh From Corstophine Hill by Alexander Nasmyth was sold in the Old Master and British Paintings Day Sale auction at Sothebys in London in December 2011. The price achieved of GBP 16,250.00 (€ 19,461.67) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 14,000.00 – 18,000.00. Admittedly, works by Alexander Nasmyth have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work View of Dreghorn Castle, Midlothian, with figures and a hay cart in the foreground in October 2005 with an auction result of GBP 72,000.00 (€ 106,178.24).
