Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A View Of Brechin Castle, Angus, Seen From The Southbank Of The River South Esk, With The Artist Sketching And Other Figures On The Banks by Alexander Nasmyth was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2013. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 30,000.00 – 50,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 35,000.00 (€ 41,302.02) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Alexander Nasmyth - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work View of Dreghorn Castle, Midlothian, with figures and a hay cart in the foreground, which sold at auction in October 2005 for GBP 72,000.00 (€ 106,178.24).
