In May 2012 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings, which included the work A Capriccio View Of The Colosseum Ruins by Alexander Nasmyth. The result of GBP 6,000.00 (€ 7,475.74) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Alexander Nasmyth achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work View of Dreghorn Castle, Midlothian, with figures and a hay cart in the foreground in October 2005 with an auction result of GBP 72,000.00 (€ 106,178.24).

Im Mai 2012 führte Sothebys in London die Auktion Old Master & British Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Capriccio View Of The Colosseum Ruins von Alexander Nasmyth zur Versteigerung kam. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von GBP 6.000,00 (€ 7.475,74) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 6.000,00 – 8.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Alexander Nasmyth erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit View of Dreghorn Castle, Midlothian, with figures and a hay cart in the foreground im Oktober 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 72.000,00 (€ 106.178,24).
