N. Dash is considered a painter, but the term is broad: She combines the traditional art medium with sculpture and photography, using all sorts of (found) materials. Dirt, jute, styrofoam, plastic bottles shape her works into complex compositions. The Stedelijk Museum voor Actuele Kunst (S.M.A.K.) in Ghent will present a selection by the U.S. artist in N. Dash: Earth beginning June 25. In it, she analyzes the environment shaped by humans, which is composed of natural, industrially produced and handmade materials and objects. The exhibition runs through November 6.
N. Dash was born in Miami in 1980 and works in New York City. Previous solo exhibitions have included the Santa Barbara Museum of Contemporary Art (2019) and the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles (2014/15). Numerous world-renowned museums collect N. Dash's work, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art (both New York), and the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney.
