Auction result misses estimated price range
When this work without title by Zwelethu Mthethwa was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,625.00 (€ 1,447.40). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Zwelethu Mthethwa achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled from Sugar Cane Series in May 2010 with an auction result of USD 27,500.00 (€ 22,233.00).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als diese Arbeit ohne Titel von Zwelethu Mthethwa im Dezember 2019 bei Sothebys in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.625,00 (€ 1.447,40) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Zwelethu Mthethwa erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled from Sugar Cane Series im Mai 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 27.500,00 (€ 22.233,00).
