This artwork by Zhang Chong achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Hong Kong in May last year. In the Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy auction, the work Scholars Drinking in a Small Pavilion sold for HKD 441,000.00 (€ 52,356.16) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 250,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Zhang Chong; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Ink Peony sold at auction in November 2015 with the realized price of HKD 475,000.00 (€ 58,014.58).
