Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Haru no nagare (Stream in spring) by Yokoyama Taikan was auctioned at Christies in New York in May 2001, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 30,000.00 – 40,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 28,200.00 (€ 33,353.05). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Yokoyama Taikan achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Miho no Fujisan (Mount Fuji from Miho) in November 2000 with an auction result of USD 358,000.00 (€ 411,778.24).
