Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Untitled (Seated Male), 1995 by William Theophilus Brown was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in September 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,912.50 (€ 1,632.10). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Theophilus Brown achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Untitled (Still Life With Lemon) in May 2006 with an auction result of USD 45,600.00 (€ 35,533.39).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Untitled (Seated Male), 1995 von William Theophilus Brown im September 2020 bei Bonhams in Los Angeles versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 1.912,50 (€ 1.632,10) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Theophilus Brown erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Untitled (Still Life With Lemon) im Mai 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 45.600,00 (€ 35.533,39).
