In April this year Bonhams held the auction Made in CaliforniaContemporary Art, which included the work Untitled, 1973 by William Theophilus Brown. The »bidding war« ended at USD 4,462.50 (€ 4,042.12), 49% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by William Theophilus Brown have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Untitled (Still Life With Lemon) in May 2006 with an auction result of USD 45,600.00 (€ 35,533.39).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 49 % übertroffen
Im April diesen Jahres führte Bonhams die Auktion Made in CaliforniaContemporary Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Untitled, 1973 von William Theophilus Brown zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 4.462,50 (€ 4.042,12) und damit 49% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Theophilus Brown auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Untitled (Still Life With Lemon) im Mai 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 45.600,00 (€ 35.533,39).
