Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In July 2019 Christies in London held the auction Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna, which included the work Six landscape studies including: unloading a boat behind a ruined arch; figures on the foreshore before a tower; and a cottage on a harbour by William Payne. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 2,375.00 (€ 2,607.59), 19% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Payne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle, which sold at auction in May 2008 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Juli 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna durch, in der auch die Arbeit Six landscape studies including: unloading a boat behind a ruined arch; figures on the foreshore before a tower; and a cottage on a harbour von William Payne zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 2.375,00 (€ 2.607,59) und damit 19% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von William Payne mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle beobachtet, die im Mai 2008 für GBP 8.125,00 (€ 10.335,36) versteigert wurde.
