Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Four landscape studies: Washerwomen in a cave beside an estuary; A rowing boat approaching a riverside cottage; A traveller and donkeys crossing a waterfall; and Travellers entering a ruined arch by William Payne was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2020. It changed hands for a price of GBP 2,750.00 (€ 3,072.00) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Payne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle, which sold at auction in May 2008 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).

Die Arbeit Four landscape studies: Washerwomen in a cave beside an estuary; A rowing boat approaching a riverside cottage; A traveller and donkeys crossing a waterfall; and Travellers entering a ruined arch von William Payne kam im Dezember 2020 bei Christies in London zur Auktion. Dabei wechselte sie für einen Preis von GBP 2.750,00 (€ 3.072,00) den Besitzer und erzielte damit ein Ergebnis im oberen Bereich der Schätzpreisspanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00. Für andere Arbeiten von William Payne mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle beobachtet, die im Mai 2008 für GBP 8.125,00 (€ 10.335,36) versteigert wurde.
