Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2018 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours, which included the work The ruins of St Germans, Port Eliot, Cornwall by William Payne. The price achieved of GBP 4,375.00 (€ 4,905.34) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Payne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle, which sold at auction in May 2008 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).
