In the Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours Including Works from the Collection of Jean Bonna auction, the work Eight landscape study roundels; including travellers before a ruin; a waterfall before a castle; a traveller crossing a footbridge; and a cottage in an estuary landscape sold for GBP 3,750.00 (€ 4,117.25) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Payne - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Shipping lying on the Tamar before Pentillie Castle, which sold at auction in May 2008 for GBP 8,125.00 (€ 10,335.36).
