Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Double Portrait: A Sketch (Sketch For The Portrait Of Mother And Child) by William Merritt Chase was sold in the American Art auction at Sothebys in New York in March 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 80,000.00 – 120,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 81,250.00 (€ 72,363.73) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Merritt Chase achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 6,649,000.00 (€ 4,273,136.25).
