Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Untitled (Shinnecock Hills, Long Island) by William Merritt Chase was auctioned at Christies in New York in November 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 375,000.00 (€ 332,240.63). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Merritt Chase achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 6,649,000.00 (€ 4,273,136.25).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Untitled (Shinnecock Hills, Long Island) von William Merritt Chase im November 2021 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 400.000,00 – 600.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 375.000,00 (€ 332.240,63) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Merritt Chase erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.649.000,00 (€ 4.273.136,25).
