Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work Study for the Portrait of Mme. E. H. Bensel (Lady at the Window) by William Merritt Chase was auctioned at Bonhams in Los Angeles in November this year. It achieved a price of USD 17,920.00 (€ 16,428.31), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 19%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Merritt Chase achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 6,649,000.00 (€ 4,273,136.25).

Die Arbeit Study for the Portrait of Mme. E. H. Bensel (Lady at the Window) von William Merritt Chase kam im November diesen Jahres bei Bonhams in Los Angeles zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 17.920,00 (€ 16.428,31) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 19%. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Merritt Chase erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit I Think I Am Ready Now (The Mirror, The Pink Dress) im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 6.649.000,00 (€ 4.273.136,25).
