It achieved a price of USD 11,162.50 (€ 11,992.37), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 59%. Admittedly, works by William Matthew Prior have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A Group of Family Portraits in January 2005 with an auction result of USD 156,000.00 (€ 119,549.39).

Die Arbeit Portrait of a Young Girl with Mourning Brooch von William Matthew Prior kam im Januar 2001 bei Christies in New York zur Auktion. Sie erzielte dabei einen Preis von USD 11.162,50 (€ 11.992,37) und übertraf damit das obere Ende der Schätzpreisspanne um 59%. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Matthew Prior auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit A Group of Family Portraits im Januar 2005 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 156.000,00 (€ 119.549,39).
