Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2009 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of a Young Woman by William Matthew Prior for USD 3,250.00 (€ 2,538.27). This price was achieved in the auction American Furniture and Decorative Arts including English and Dutch Delft at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 4,000.00 – 6,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Matthew Prior achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Group of Family Portraits in January 2005 with an auction result of USD 156,000.00 (€ 119,549.39).
