Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of William Henry Liscomb as a Young Boy by William Matthew Prior was auctioned at Christies in New York in January 2021. The price achieved of USD 47,500.00 (€ 39,142.97) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Matthew Prior - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Group of Family Portraits, which sold at auction in January 2005 for USD 156,000.00 (€ 119,549.39).
