This artwork by William Hodges achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in September 2006. In the Exploration and Travel with the Polar Sale Including The Amundsen Collection auction, the work The Resolution in a stream of pack-ice sold for GBP 78,000.00 (€ 115,066.45) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 40,000.00. Admittedly, works by William Hodges have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 659,250.00 (€ 764,682.72).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 95 % übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von William Hodges erzielte im September 2006 bei Christies in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Exploration and Travel with the Polar Sale Including The Amundsen Collection wurde die Arbeit The Resolution in a stream of pack-ice für GBP 78.000,00 (€ 115.066,45) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 40.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von William Hodges auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) im Oktober 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 659.250,00 (€ 764.682,72).
