Auction result well in line with expectations
The work 'The East End of the Fort of Mongheer' hand-coloured aquatint by and after Hodges, window-mounted, published by J. Greives, 1 September 1787; and a hand-coloured view by Edware Orme of 'Fortress of Gwalior, taken by General Popham in 1779', published by William Hodges was sold in the Travel & Exploration auction at Bonhams in London in September last year. The price achieved of GBP 510.00 (€ 580.43) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hodges achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 659,250.00 (€ 764,682.72).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit 'The East End of the Fort of Mongheer' hand-coloured aquatint by and after Hodges, window-mounted, published by J. Greives, 1 September 1787; and a hand-coloured view by Edware Orme of 'Fortress of Gwalior, taken by General Popham in 1779', published von William Hodges wurde im September letzten Jahres in der Auktion Travel & Exploration bei Bonhams in London versteigert.
