Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2015 Christies in London held the auction Topographical Pictures, which included the work A hilly Indian landscape with figures passing by a cave by William Hodges. The price achieved of GBP 25,000.00 (€ 34,968.76) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 20,000.00 – 30,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Hodges achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) in October 2019 with an auction result of GBP 659,250.00 (€ 764,682.72).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober 2015 führte Christies in London die Auktion Topographical Pictures durch, in der auch die Arbeit A hilly Indian landscape with figures passing by a cave von William Hodges zur Versteigerung kam. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 25.000,00 (€ 34.968,76) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Hodges erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti) im Oktober 2019 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 659.250,00 (€ 764.682,72).
