Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A View of Vaitepiha Bay, Tahiti (Tautira Valley from Tautira Bay) by William Hodges was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2019. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 300,000.00 – 400,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 311,250.00 (€ 361,027.68) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Hodges - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Matavie Bay in the Island of Otaheite (Matavai Bay, Tahiti), which sold at auction in October 2019 for GBP 659,250.00 (€ 764,682.72).
