Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work U. S. Geological Survey Of The Territories by William Henry Jackson was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in April 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 15,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 10,625.00 (€ 9,485.76). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Henry Jackson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work 'Royal Gorge--Grand Cañon Of The Arkansas', which sold at auction in April 2008 for USD 49,000.00 (€ 31,474.82).
