Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Mount Sopris from Spring Gulch Mine, Colorado; and New York Harbor and Skyline 2 by William Henry Jackson was auctioned at Bonhams in New York in December 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 446.25 (€ 394.28). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Henry Jackson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Royal Gorge--Grand Cañon Of The Arkansas' in April 2008 with an auction result of USD 49,000.00 (€ 31,474.82).
