Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Convolvulus beside a birds nest, on a mossy bank; and A birds nest with eggs, on a mossy bank by William Cruickshank was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2006, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 240.00 (€ 356.19). Admittedly, works by William Cruickshank have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A cat and mouse with a pheasant and a rabbit in a larder; and Pheasant and a hare in a larder in June 2000 with an auction result of GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,421.28).
