In June 2000 Christies in London held the auction SPORTING ART AND DOGS, which included the work A cat and mouse with a pheasant and a rabbit in a larder; and Pheasant and a hare in a larder by William Cruickshank. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,421.28), 27% above the upper estimate. With this result, A cat and mouse with a pheasant and a rabbit in a larder; and Pheasant and a hare in a larder is even the most expensive work of art by William Cruickshank that we have observed at auctions so far.
