Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Untitled (Circus Clowns) by William Baziotes was auctioned at Christies in New York in March 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 18,000.00 – 25,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 11,250.00 (€ 9,580.18). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Baziotes achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Phantasm in November 2017 with an auction result of USD 1,332,500.00 (€ 1,119,936.12).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Untitled (Circus Clowns) von William Baziotes im März 2021 bei Christies in New York versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 18.000,00 – 25.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für USD 11.250,00 (€ 9.580,18) den Besitzer. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von William Baziotes erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Phantasm im November 2017 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 1.332.500,00 (€ 1.119.936,12).
