Artwork auctioned at four times the upper estimate price
When the work Grapes, plums, figs and a melon, on a partly draped stone ledge by Willem van Aelst was auctioned at Christies in London in April 2002, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 50,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than four times as high at GBP 215,650.00 (€ 348,916.05). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Willem van Aelst - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Still life with grapes in a basket, peaches on a silver dish, medlars, two butterflies, a fly and a snail, all on a red velvet cloth over a partially draped ledge, which sold at auction in January 2021 for USD 1,230,000.00 (€ 1,013,597.03).
Für andere Arbeiten von Willem van Aelst mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Still life with grapes in a basket, peaches on a silver dish, medlars, two butterflies, a fly and a snail, all on a red velvet cloth over a partially draped ledge beobachtet, die im Januar 2021 für USD 1.230.000,00 (€ 1.013.597,03) versteigert wurde.
