This artwork by Willem de Klerk achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in April 2002. In the 19TH CENTURY EUROPEAN ART auction, the work A peasant woman and child on a wooded path by a forest sold for EUR 26,290.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 14,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Willem de Klerk; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A winterlandscape with peasants on a frozen waterway, with farmhouses and a windmill beyond sold at auction in April 2001 with the realized price of NLG 99,875.00 (€ 45,840.76).
