Artwork auctioned at seven times the upper estimate price
The work Stone Drum Calligraphy by Wang Shu was worth HKD 740,000.00 (€ 77,088.32) to a buyer in May 2012. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 100,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Wang Shu; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Superfluous Words On Calligraphy sold at auction in September 2012 with the realized price of USD 134,500.00 (€ 104,620.41).
