Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
The work Seven-character Poem in Running Script by Wang Shu was worth HKD 350,000.00 (€ 34,708.96) to a buyer in May 2013. This price was achieved in the auction Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 60,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Wang Shu - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Superfluous Words On Calligraphy, which sold at auction in September 2012 for USD 134,500.00 (€ 104,620.41).
