Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Shipka Pass by Vasily Vereshchagin was sold in the Important Russian Art auction at Sothebys in London in May 2012. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 400,000.00 – 600,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 421,250.00 (€ 524,858.97) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Vasily Vereshchagin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Taj Mahal, Evening in June 2011 with an auction result of GBP 2,281,250.00 (€ 2,523,779.09).
