Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Pearl Mosque At Delhi, 1876-79 by Vasily Vereshchagin was sold in the Important Russian Art auction at Sothebys in New York in November 2011. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 3,000,000.00 – 5,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 3,106,500.00 (€ 2,309,150.38) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Other works by Vasily Vereshchagin have already achieved higher auction prices, for example, in June 2011 the work The Taj Mahal, Evening was auctioned for GBP 2,281,250.00 (€ 2,523,779.09).
