This artwork by Utagawa Kuniyoshi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2021. In the Fine Japanese Prints auction, the work Mitsukuni defying the skeleton spectre conjured up by Princess Takiyasha (Souma no furudairi yokai ga shadokuro to tatakau oya notarou Mitsukuni) sold for GBP 107,100.00 (€ 127,747.84) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 40,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Utagawa Kuniyoshi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Mitsukuni Defying The Skeleton Spectre Conjured Up By Princess Takiyasha (Souma No Furudairi Yokai Ga Shadokuro To Tatakau Oya Notarou Mitsukuni) sold at auction in November 2019 with the realized price of GBP 200,000.00 (€ 234,848.90).
