Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Utagawa Kuniyoshi achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in September 2010. In the Japanese & Korean Art Including Arts of the Meiji Period auction, the work Kiyomori Nyudo Nunobiki no taki yuran Akugenda Yoshihira no rei Nanba Jiro o utsu (The ghost of Akugenda Yoshihira striking down his killer, Nanba Jiro, at Nunobiki Waterfall before Kiyomori and his men) sold for USD 4,375.00 (€ 3,216.68) - well above the upper estimate of USD 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Kuniyoshi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mitsukuni Defying The Skeleton Spectre Conjured Up By Princess Takiyasha (Souma No Furudairi Yokai Ga Shadokuro To Tatakau Oya Notarou Mitsukuni) in November 2019 with an auction result of GBP 200,000.00 (€ 234,848.90).
In der Auktion Japanese & Korean Art Including Arts of the Meiji Period wurde die Arbeit Kiyomori Nyudo Nunobiki no taki yuran Akugenda Yoshihira no rei Nanba Jiro o utsu (The ghost of Akugenda Yoshihira striking down his killer, Nanba Jiro, at Nunobiki Waterfall before Kiyomori and his men) für USD 4.375,00 (€ 3.216,68) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 2.000,00.
