An oban tate-e musha-e print of Jisaisei shichijuni-in, hachiban no uchi (72 Earthly Warriors, Set of Eight), from the series Suikoden goketsu hyakuhachinin (108 Heroes of the Popular Water Margin), depicting nine heroes from the Chinese adventure story, published by Kagaya Kichiemon, censor's seal kiwame, signed Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga; mounted on card. 26cm x 37.7cm (10¼in x 14 13/16in).

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Jisaisei shichijuni-in, hachiban no uchi (72 Earthly Warriors, Set of Eight) by Utagawa Kuniyoshi was sold in the From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries auction at Bonhams in London in May this year. The price achieved of GBP 1,280.00 (€ 1,489.29) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Utagawa Kuniyoshi achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Mitsukuni Defying The Skeleton Spectre Conjured Up By Princess Takiyasha (Souma No Furudairi Yokai Ga Shadokuro To Tatakau Oya Notarou Mitsukuni) in November 2019 with an auction result of GBP 200,000.00 (€ 234,848.90).

Die Arbeit Jisaisei shichijuni-in, hachiban no uchi (72 Earthly Warriors, Set of Eight) von Utagawa Kuniyoshi wurde im Mai diesen Jahres in der Auktion From Harunobu to Hasui | Japanese Prints across the centuries bei Bonhams in London versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.280,00 (€ 1.489,29) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Utagawa Kuniyoshi erzielen.
