Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Intoxicating Flowers of Asukayama (Asuka no suika) by Torii Kiyonaga was auctioned at Sothebys in London in May 2021, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 1,800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 5,670.00 (€ 6,597.18). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Torii Kiyonaga achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work ROULEAU DE MANCHE (SODE NO MAKI ) in December 2018 with an auction result of EUR 125,000.00.
