The work Portrait of Admiral Samuel Pitchford Cornish (1739-1816), Half-Length, By A Mast, In Naval Uniform, A Baton In His Right Hand by Tilly Kettle was sold in the BRITISH PICTURES 1500-1850 auction at Christies in London in November 2005. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 14,400.00 (€ 21,155.42), 20% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Tilly Kettle have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Umdat-ul-Umara and Amir-ul-Umara, the two sons of Nawab Muhammad Ali Khan of Arcot and the Carnatic, three-quarter-length, wearing embroidered costumes, plumed turbans and jewellery. in September 2000 with an auction result of GBP 124,750.00 (€ 208,744.85).
