Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Dryburgh Abbey, Berwickshire by Thomas Girtin was sold in the Old Master Drawings auction at Sothebys in New York in January 2017. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 50,000.00 – 80,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 52,500.00 (€ 48,638.13) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Thomas Girtin have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Durham Cathedral And Castle in July 2010 with an auction result of GBP 265,250.00 (€ 318,933.24).
