Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In July 2016 Sothebys in London held the auction Old Master and British Works on Paper Including drawings from the Oppé Collection, which included the work A Distant View Of Whitby, Yorkshire by Thomas Girtin. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 80,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 81,250.00 (€ 96,542.58). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Girtin - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Durham Cathedral And Castle, which sold at auction in July 2010 for GBP 265,250.00 (€ 318,933.24).
